GHS understands that you want your guitar strings to be as fresh as the day they were made. All GHS facilities are strictly regulated to ensure proper temperature and humidity. Sensitive materials are are wrapped in protective bags for storage. Coiled strings are placed in string packets that have proven to offer maximum protection from humidity. Bass string lengths tend to vary because of the nature of their heavy diameters. Strings cannot just be cut to length without causing harm. They CAN be cut carefully on the "silk" for minor shortening. Heavier gauge strings are especially critical because they may break at the tuning post if the winding is wrapped too far around the post. GHS makes 5 different lengths to fit most basses. "Winding length" is the distance from the ball end to the "silk", where the "scale" of the bass is the distance from the saddle to the nut.
