And with continuing research, GHS develops string innovations that anticipate trends and instrument modifications all over the world.

String Manufacturing

At GHS,  state-of-the-art equipment is absolutely necessary! All the strings at GHS are made on machinery that is designed and built in-house. The design engineers at GHS utilize the latest technology to develop computer controlled string making machines that monitor every intricate parameter such as the number and type of twists on the ball end, winding speed and direction, core and cover wire tension, and cover wire angle and wind length. Modern quality control ensures that every product meets GHS's rigid specifications.

Innovation at It's Best

Since 1964, the founders of GHS have brought a wealth of string making experience to a small family-owned business. Today, GHS is a leader as a top brand in the global market, thanks to their dedicated staff trained and experienced in string technology. The innovation trend continues with such developments as the ìBrightness Barî (found on select string packages and designed to show what strings will produce which tones), the close collaboration with key artists (who often actually provide direct input during the string design process for Signature strings), and their ongoing efforts to create new and exciting product.

By combining their years of experience and their reputation for quality, GHS will continue to provide the best strings for players worldwide for years to come. When looking for performance from your strings, look to GHS Strings, the Strings Specialists!

GHS understands that you want your guitar strings to be as fresh as the day they were made. All GHS facilities are strictly regulated to ensure proper temperature and humidity. Sensitive materials are are wrapped in protective bags for storage. Coiled strings are placed in string packets that have proven to offer maximum protection from humidity. Swift order shipment ensures that GHS strings arrive "Factory-Fresh."

How do String Materials affect tone and feel?

The hardness of the common materials used in the cover wire of strings affects both tone and "feel" of a string. Usually, if everything else remains constant, the harder the material the brighter the string . This relationship shows why stainless steel produces a very bright sound and nickel, a softer material, produces a much warmer sound. However, harder materials can be abrasive to both your fingers and the frets. The unique "Alloy 52" is softer and less abrasive than a stainless steel but produces a tone almost as bright. Common cover wire materials include stainless steel, Alloy 52, nickel plated steel, pure nickel, and for acoustics, brass and bronze. The core for all strings and all plain steel strings are made from tin plated Swedish steel.
