| A RARE ™ Breed
DR Handmade produces a guitar string with a low tension...the sound is loud and warm.
The Rare phosphor bronze acoustic strings are a departure from the standard, good quality bronze string currently available...not
necessarily better, but possessing a new, different, and stronger “voice”.
A Redesign of Contemporary Thinking
When DR set out to produce a string with new
characteristics, the goal was to redesign contemporary thinking about what phosphor bronze can do for a good acoustic guitar.
The hand-carved arch-tops and dreadnaughts and good steel string acoustic guitars of rosewood, maple, and mahogany seem to benefit
from a distinct improvement in tone, depth, and sustain with Rare phosphor strings. Players who want fatter, louder sound, a deeper bottom…
(who like to hear their guitars ring out…) will appreciate the Rare phosphor tone, sound, and feel.
3-Time National Guitar Picking Champion Recommended
According to our heavy-playing bluegrass
friend, three time national guitar picking champion Steve Kaufman, Rares last an unusually long time. Steve recommends DR to all his students.
Fine Strings
DR HandMade Strings have been dedicated to making wonderful sounding handmade guitar strings since 1989. The concept is that great sound inspires a musician to play better and longer, while adding a new level of enjoyment.
Obsession for Greatness
Since many of the people at DR HandMade Strings are players themselves, they are able to use their playing experience, and their own obsession with music, as well as the highly valued input from many players throughout the world, to strive to continually increase the range of sounds available to guitar and bass players. They value the feedback that players are willing to share about how they can hear, feel and appreciate the difference. DR makes a wide range of types and models of guitar strings because they know that each one clearly provides a different sound and feel for the many styles of playing and players.
Guilded Testing
DR HandMade maintains copious amounts of guitars (especially Guild acoustics) for testing the guitar strings they produce. Why Guild guitars? First of all, they like them. Secondly, Mark Dronge, who founded DR HandMade Strings, is the son of Al Dronge, founder of Guild Guitars.
The Fine Art of Fine-Tuning
The goal at DR is to recreate the very best of old fashioned handmade craftsmanship and combine that with most technically advanced materials and/or coatings available to transcend the boundaries of the guitar string manufacturing process. This is done in the pursuit of great sounds to inspire unrivaled musicianship.
